Cuba’s Kissing Spine Surgery

A NEW COLLABORATION BETWEEN FREEDOM HILL HORSE RESCUE, SOPHIA’s OASIS FOR EQUINES, INC., and SOUTHERN MARYLAND EQUINE MIRACLES!

Please help us raise money to get Cuba kissing spine surgery! Cuba is a 5-year-old, OTTB bay gelding. After Cuba was purchased, his most recent owner discovered that he was in need of kissing spine surgery. Kissing spines refers to a condition in horses in which two or more spinous processes (the flanges of bone sticking up from each vertebra in the spine) are positioned to touch or rub against each other. This can cause back pain, bone cysts, and other problems. Unfortunately, this surgery is expensive and his owner reached out to Freedom Hill Horse Rescue (FHHR), Southern Maryland Equine Miracles (SMEM), and Sophia's Oasis for Equines, Inc. (SOFE) for assistance. 

FHHR, SMEM, and SOFE are working together to help Cuba get the surgery he needs! SMEM will be transporting Cuba to surgery on June 4th. Cuba will also stay on stall rest with SMEM for 2-3 weeks after his surgery. Then, SOFE will provide further training to get Cuba back in tip-top shape! The trainers at SOFE are going to work on getting Cuba able to ride again and forget the pain it initially caused him. Once the trainers have assessed him at SOFE, this sweet boy will be available for adoption! Lastly, FHHR will be running the fundraising and advertising portion of this mission.
